A Holden's tavern and riverside inn at the foot of the Iron Bridge. Real ale, honest food, and a quiet bed above the bar.
There has stood an inn on this bend of the Severn for longer than anyone in Ironbridge can rightly remember, and it has only ever done three things, all of them well: poured a proper pint, cooked an honest plate, and kept a warm bed for the night.
No theme, no gimmick. A whitewashed Holden's house with the woods at its back and the world's first iron bridge a two minute walk down the lane. Family run, dog friendly, and open to all who arrive thirsty.
Skid in broadside, thoroughly worn out, and loudly proclaiming: Tally Ho, what a ride!Painted on the beam above the bar
Tucked on the wooded north bank of the Severn, looking across to Abraham Darby's famous span. Steam railway, Gorge museums and woodland walks all begin at the door.
Holden's cask ale pulled by hand, a fire in winter, and a games room out the back.
Step inside
Pub classics and daily specials, fairly priced, served in a room of old oak beams.

Four calm adults-only rooms upstairs, a full English in the morning, the bridge at dawn.

A proper Holden's house
We are a tied house for Holden's of the Black Country, which means the cask is looked after and the price stays honest. Bitter and Golden Glow on permanently, a rotating seasonal Special when it is on form, and the usual lagers, stout and cider for those who prefer them.
Dogs welcome in the bar · pool and darts in the games room · coffee served all day
The snug
No tasting menus or tiny plates. Pub classics done properly and daily specials chalked up as the kitchen sees fit. Walk in for lunch, settle in for the evening, or sit out front in the sun with the river running by.
Food served daily. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options always on. Saturday breakfast 10am to 12.
Adults-only and kept simple: comfortable beds, en-suite where it counts, and a proper full English downstairs before you explore the Gorge. The pub closes, the lane goes quiet, and you have one of the best views in Shropshire to wake up to.

When the sun is out, the tables out front fill up fast. A cafetiere, something from the kitchen, and an uninterrupted view of the Iron Bridge and the Severn sliding past. It is, quite simply, where Ironbridge comes to sit a while.

Lee · United KingdomThe breakfast was very nice and just what we asked for. You can walk into town.
Ernest · United KingdomRight on Waterloo Street, two minutes from the Iron Bridge. The bar is open every day and the kitchen serves through. No booking needed for a pint, but a table or a room is wise at weekends.
