What soft washing actually is

A low-pressure cleaning method that uses a specialist biocide solution to kill moss, algae, lichen and other organic growth on roofs and exterior surfaces. Unlike high-pressure washing it does not blast the surface with force. It relies on the biocide to do the work, which is far gentler on tiles, render and other materials.

How it worksWe apply a carefully mixed biocide solution using an extendable water-fed pole fitted with a soft brush. The system delivers a low-pressure mix of water and biocide across the roof while the brush gently agitates the surface, so the treatment coats the tiles thoroughly and works into the growth. The aim is to cover the roof in biocide so it kills the moss at the root, which is what slows the regrowth down.

What to expectSome of the larger, looser moss comes away during the treatment. Not all of it will be off on the day, and that is completely normal. The biocide carries on working after we leave, so the rest dies off over the following weeks. Most customers notice a visible improvement within about 7 days, as the dead moss begins to weather and wash away with the rain.

Worth knowingSoft washing is a treatment, not an instant deep clean. The full improvement develops gradually as the killed growth breaks down and the weather carries it off. That is safer for your roof covering, and better at preventing rapid regrowth, than pressure washing alone.
