What goes into a new roof

A re-roof is more than new slates. Seven layers, rafters to gutter.

  1. Rafters
  2. Breathable membrane
  3. Battens
  4. Slates or tiles
  5. Lead flashing
  6. Ridge
  7. Fascia, soffit and gutter

Lead on a new roof

Lead roll

One unbroken run

Lead dressed over a timber roll down the hip.

Hip tiles

Shaped tiles, bedded

Each one cut and bedded over the hip.

Lead goes in as the courses go on, at hips, valleys and walls.

Before you get quotes

How a re-roof runs

  1. Scaffold

    Almost always, for safe access.

  2. Strip

The old slates and battens come off.

  3. Lay

Membrane, then battens, then the new slates.

No prices on the website, because no two roofs are the same size and shape. The quote is free.

Not always a whole roof. If one part has failed, a repair may be all it needs.

Can a roof window go in at the same time?
