A proper wet room is a waterproof box you happen to shower in. The tanking is the job. Everything you can see is the easy part.
Wet room, or level access shower?
People use the two words for the same thing and they are not quite the same. This is the difference, because it changes the price.
A wet room
The whole floor is tanked and laid to fall towards a drain. No tray at all. The most flexible option, the most waterproofing, and the one that suits an awkward shaped room.
A level access shower
A low profile tray set flush into the floor. Cheaper and quicker, keeps the water in a defined area, and for most people it does the same job.
At the survey we will tell you which one your floor will actually take. A suspended timber floor and a concrete floor are very different jobs.

Laid to fall
The floor is built to slope to the drain. Get this wrong and water sits in a corner for the next twenty years.
Fully tanked
A continuous waterproof membrane over floor and walls, taped at every joint and corner before a single tile goes on.
Drainage
Linear or centre drain, sized for the shower you are actually fitting. A rain head needs more away than a standard mixer.

Are wet rooms expensive?
A wet room costs more than dropping a tray in, because the tanking and the floor build up are real work. Where it pays for itself is an awkward room, or somebody who cannot step over a lip. The estimator on the prices page gives you a range for both.
Will the rest of the bathroom get wet?
Not if it is designed properly. A screen, the right fall on the floor and a drain sized for the shower keeps water where it belongs.
Can I have a wet room upstairs?
Usually yes. It depends on the floor construction and how much height we have to build up in. We check that at the survey before quoting.
How long does a wet room take?
Seven to ten working days on the tools for most of them, a little longer than a standard refit because the tanking has to be given time to do its job properly. When we could start is the part that moves week to week, so ring and we will tell you the real next date rather than a lead time off a web page.
What if the tanking fails in two years?
You ring the same number you rang the first time and you get the same people. The tanking, the floor build up, the drain and the tiling over it were all ours, so there is no argument to sit through about whose work it was. Ask us at the survey what we stand behind and for how long, and we will write it on the quote.
